JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team had a great evening at Bob Braddy Field Wednesday, sweeping Concordia – Alabama in an evening double header. The Tigers took the Hornets 18-5 in game one and 12-1 in game two.
Mark Watson took the win on the mound in game one for Jackson State, pitching 4.0 innings. The Orlando, Fla. native improved his record to 1-1, allowing three hits, four runs (all unearned), and two walks with four strikeouts.
Two other pitchers entered the game for the Tigers. Francisco Cervantes pitched 2.0 innings with two strikeouts and Richard “Mo” Brown pitched 1.0 innings with two hits allowed, one earned run, and one strikeout to close the game.
CJ Newsome and Cornelius Copeland had a great game at the plate to lead the JSU offense. Newsome tallied four at-bats, three runs, four hits (one double), and one RBI. Copeland recorded five at-bats, two runs, four hits (one double and one triple), and two RBIs.
Other standout Tigers were Justin Moore, Bryce Brown, and Wesley Reyes who collected two RBIs each.
In game two, Joshua Santiago was credited with the win for the Tigers. The Arecibo, Puerto Rico native pitched 4.0 innings for two hits against, one earned run, and five strikeouts.
Kevin Perez and Jashanno Sweeting also took the mound for JSU. Perez pitched 2.0 innings for one hit and two strikeouts and Jashanno Sweeting pitched 1.0 innings to close the game.
At the plate, Lakon Wilson and Jarvis Warner led the Tiger offense. Wilson recorded three at-bats, two runs and two hits. Warner grabbed three at-bats, one run, two hits, and one RBI.
The Tigers will return to the diamond on Friday, March 10 at 6 p.m. to host Alabama State in the first game of a three-game conference series. Come out and support Tiger baseball.
