JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team prevents the Alabama State sweep during the weekend series with a 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
Miguel Yrigoyen, right-hand pitcher, received the win on the mound for the Tigers pitching the complete nine-inning game. The Valencia, Venezuela native recorded five hits against, one walk, and eight strikeouts. He faced 34 batters for a single unearned run.
Junior infielder Jesus Santana led the JSU at the plate with four at-bats, three runs, three hits, and one RBI. The Caguas, Puerto Rico native recorded one double and one homerun to tie fellow Tiger Sam Campbell with a game high of three hits.
In the bottom of the second inning, Santana scored the first run of the game off a single from Campbell to left field.
The following two innings went scoreless and in the top of the fifth Alabama State tied the game on a single to second base.
In the sixth inning, Santana homered for a RBI to break the tie for a 2-1 score.
The Tigers continued scoring with a single run in the bottom of the seventh and a single run in the eighth for a final score of 4-1.
Jackson State will be back on the diamond Monday, March 13 when they face Rust College in doubleheader action. The first pitched is scheduled for 1 p.m.
