JACKSON, Miss. – Jesus Santana racks up two homeruns, one for a grand slam, to aid the Jackson State baseball team in the doubleheader victories over Rust College Monday afternoon. The Tigers defeated the Bearcats 9-2 in game one and 17-4 in game two.
In game one, Seberon Mackey received his first win on the mound this season. Mackey pitched 5.0 innings for one hit against, one unearned run, and six strikeouts. Francisco Cervantes closed the game for the Tigers with 1.0 innings pitched, three hits against, one earned run, and two strikeouts.
Santana led JSU at the plate with two at-bats, one run, two hits (one homerun), and three RBIs. Briggs recorded two runs to lead the Tigers in scoring.
In game two, Garth Cahill also grabbed his first win on the mound with 6.0 innings pitched, eight hits against, three runs (two earned), and for strikeouts. Richard ‘Mo’ Brown closed the game for JSU pitching 1.0 innings with two hits against, one earned run, and two strikeouts.
Santana and Wesley Reyes led the Tigers at the plate for the second win of the day. Santana recorded four at-bats, two runs, two hits (one grand slam), and 5 RBIs. Reyes recorded five at-bats, three runs, three hits (one double and one triple), and two RBIs. Other standout Tiger was Jarvis Warner who recorded four at-bats, three runs, two hits, and three RBIs.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to face Southern University. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
