BATON ROUGE, La. – The Jackson State baseball team was unlucky in its search for a road win, falling 13-8 to Southern University Tuesday evening.
The Tigers now 12-6 had a great start to the game leading the Jags 4-1 going into the third inning. In the bottom of the third, Southern was able to get two runners across home plate and an additional runner in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
JSU scored three runs in the fifth to regain a 6-4 lead. Stephan Vidal doubled to right center to send Jesus Santana home for a single RBI. Wesley Reyes single to left field to allow Sam Campbell and Vidal to score to collect two RBIs of his own.
In the fifth inning, Southern cut the JSU lead with a single and the Tigers answered in the seventh scoring their last run of the game.
The Jaguars solidified their win over JSU in the bottom of the eighth, scoring seven runs for the game final of 13-8.
Sam Campbell, senior infielder, went 2-for-4 at the plate for three runs and Lakon Wilson went 1-for-3 for three RBIs.
Jesse Anderson, senior right-hand pitcher, received his first loss on the mound. The Ontario, Canada native pitched 1.0 innings for one hit, three earned runs, and two strikeouts.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 15 when they head to Monroe, La. to take on the Warhawks of ULM. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
