MONROE, LA. – The Jackson State baseball team recorded its third shutout of the season for sweet revenge against the Warhawks of University of Louisiana – Monroe after suffering an at-home loss against ULM earlier in the season. The Tigers (13-7) defeated the Warhawks 2-0 Wednesday evening.
Jordan Bolden, senior right hand pitcher, received the win on the mound to improve his record 3-2. The Madison, Miss. native pitched 2.0 innings for one hit against and two strike outs. Jesse Anderson entered the game after Bolden to pitch 3.0 innings for two hits and two strike outs. After Anderson’s time on the mound, Joshua Santiago pitched 1.1 innings for two hits against and three strikeouts and Jose Tirado closed the game for the save for 2.2 innings pitched, four hits against, and two strike outs.
Wesley Reyes, freshman shortstop, went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run. Lamar Briggs and Stephan Vidal collected one RBI each to round out the JSU offense.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the second inning. Reyes singled to left field to take first base. Kevin Perez walked and advance Reyes to second. Stephan Vidal singled to center field for a RBI that allowed Reyes to score the first run of the game.
The final run of the game was scored in the top of the fifth. Lakon Wilson singled to center field then Briggs singled down the left line to allow Lakon to score. JSU ends the game 2-0 over ULM.
The Jackson State baseball team will be back in action on Friday, March 17 when they host Alcorn State University at MGM Stadium in Biloxi, Miss. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
