JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State women’s bowling team will travel to Smyrna, Tenn. to play in its last regular season competition on Friday, March 17 – Sunday, March 19. The Lady Tigers are returning to the lanes for the Columbia 300 Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University.
JSU will face 35 teams, 19 of which hold top 20 rankings in the latest NTCA poll. The Lady Tigers will also go head-to-head with four conference rivals; Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M, and Texas Southern.
JSU will rely on the bowling skills of Marcella Sanchez, who just recently placed fourth at the SWAC EAST round up to help lead the Tigers to a second-place finish in the conference regular season play. Sanchez, junior form San Salvador, El Salvador, has racked up several top ten finishes this season and has been named to five all-tournament teams.
Other Lady Tiger bowlers to look out for are senior Laura Uzzell, team leader keeps pushing the team forward, and freshman Violet Kirk, who always steps up when the team needs her.
The Tournament will be a standard competition format. Friday’s play begins at 9:40 a.m. with five, 5-Game Baker matches. Saturday’s five traditional matches begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday’s championship bracket is best four of seven Baker with an 8:30 a.m. beginning time.
The competition will be the last before the Lady Tigers head to Arlington, Texas to participate in the SWAC Championship Tournament next week.
