Lady Tigers fall 7-5 to PVAM on Friday

JACKSON, Miss. – Kelsey Coronado drove in four runs in aiding Prairie View A&M to a 7-5 win over Jackson State Friday afternoon at the JSU SB Complex.

PVAMU (4-16, 1-0 SWAC) led off the scoring with a solo shot by Kylar Ward-Flowers in the second inning. JSU (7-18, 0-1 SWAC) tied things via a RBI single by Gaylan Johnson that scored Cheyenne Aplon.

In the fourth, PVAMU exploded at the plate, as the Lady Panthers scored on a bases-loaded walk and Coronado delivered a bases-clearing double. Shelby Williams scored Coronado on a RBI triple. Coronado homered in the sixth to make it 7-1 PVAMU.

Jackson State came alive in the sixth with RBI base hits by Sierra Smith and Johnson, and Kaitlyn Elzie dropped a RBI bunt single. Denisha Knight added a RBI single, but the Lady Panthers halted the Lady Tiger bats from there.

Ashley Higgins went 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits in getting the win. Johnson was 3-for-4.

The two teams will play the final two games of the series in a Saturday double-header at the JSU SB Complex.
