Lady Tigers Knock Off Prairie View and Alabama A&M To Open SWAC Roundup Play

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jackson State women’s tennis team picked up a pair of wins, beating Prairie View A&M and Alabama A&M, on the first day of the SWAC Roundup at Lagoon Park.

In the first match JSU took control and beat the PVAM Panthers 4-2. In doubles action, Dasha Butanna and Nina Zhang defeated Shaddae Findley and Timara Maxwell 6-4 at the No. 3 position. The Lady Tigers dominated singles action, winning No. 1 (Tyler Smith won 6-0, 6-2), Lucia Solio won 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Nina Zhang and Ariel Dickson rounded out JSU wins at the No. 4 and 5 positions.

After beating the Lady Panthers, JSU then turned its attention to Alabama A&M. The Lady Tigers blanked the Lady Bulldogs 4-0. JSU took doubles action behind the play of Lucia Solis and Tyler Smith at No. 2, winning 6-1. Dasha Butorina and Nina Zhang won 6-3 at No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead.

In singles action, Smith (No. 1), Zhang (No. 3) and Dickson (No. 4) all picked up commanding wins for the Lady Tigers. Smith won 6-2, 6-3, while Zhangs won 6-1, 6-3. Dickson picked up the final win for JSU 6-2, 6-2.

The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday for the second day of the SWAC Roundup.
