Tigers Down Prairie View and Alabama A&M To Open SWAC Roundup Play

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jackson State men’s tennis team picked up a pair of wins, beating Prairie View A&M and Alabama A&M, on the first day of the SWAC Roundup at Lagoon Park.

In the first match JSU took control and beat the PVAM Panthers 4-2. In doubles action, the Tigers took care of the Panthers. After dropping the first point of doubles, JSU took No. 2 and No. 3. Federico Mendieta and Alawi Audrey defeated Sergio Avella and Anerudh Yadav 6-3, Stylianos Gkontsaris and Vishu Presad took down Freddy Zachary Suico 6-4.

In singles action Mendieta won at No. 3, Gkontsaris picked up a win at No. 5 and Prasad won at No. 6 to secure the win for the Tigers.

JSU then took down the AAMU Bulldogs 4-1. Once again, the Tigers picked up a pair of wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Andrey and Mendieta won 6-2 and Gkontsaris and Presad won 6-3. In singles action Andrey won at the No. 1 position, while Gkontsaris and Presad won at No. 5 and No. 6.

The Tigers return to action Saturday for the second day of the SWAC Roundup.
