JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team will host Le Moyne Owen in doubleheader action on Tuesday, March 20.
The Tigers now 15-8, enter Tuesday’s competition after taking a home series against Alcorn State University 2-1. JSU started the series in Biloxi where they fell 5-4 to the Braves but once they brought the remaining two games home, JSU defeated Alcorn 16-4 in game two and 11-6 in game three.
The Tigers currently have 12 players batting .300 or better. CJ Newsome leads JSU with a .411 batting average. The sophomore outfielder has played in 16 games with 14 starts for 56 at-bats, 20 runs, and 23 hits (nine doubles and one triple) for 11 runners batted in, 34 total bases, and a .607 slugging percentage.
Lamar Briggs, junior utility player, has played and started in all 23 games for a .373 batting average. Briggs has tallied 59 at-bats, 15 runs, 22 hit (four doubles and two triples) for 20 RBIs, 42 total bases, and a .477 slugging percentage.
The Tiger bullpen is full of capable pitchers. JSU currently has seven pitchers with an earned run average less than four. Jordan Bolden, senior right hand pitcher, leads the Tigers in wins with a 4-2 overall average and Miguel Yrigoyen leads JSU in ERA with a 2.08 ERA. The Valencia, Venezuela native also leads the Tigers in innings pitched with 34.2.
The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Robert “Bob” Braddy Field located on the campus of Jackson State University. Come out and support Tiger baseball.
