Athletics Adds 22 New Chi Alpha Sigma Members

JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State University Division of Athletics held its annual Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society Induction Ceremony Monday night at the JSU Student Center Senate Chamber. 22​ new chapter members were inducted into the honor society and 1​5​ current chapter members were honored. In order to be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma student-athletes must have lettered in their prospective sport and maintained a 3.4 grade point average or greater.

Established in 1996 at DePauw University, Chi Alpha Sigma is a non-profit organization, established to recognize college student athletes who have earned a varsity letter in at least one sports while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their junior and senior years.

For the purposes of rewarding high academic scholarship of college athletes at four-year accredited colleges and universities, encourage good citizenship, moral characters and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletes, and to provide leadership to other athletes – are some of the reasons this organization was chartered.

​Twelve of JSU’s eighteen teams earned at least a 3.0 GPA: baseball, women’s bowling, softball, women’s golf, men’s golf, women’s tennis, men’s tennis, volleyball, men’s track, women’s track, women’s basketball and soccer.
