JACKSON, Miss. – Cornelius Copeland goes 3-for-3 at the plate to the lead the Jackson State offense in its 13-6 win over Mississippi Valley State. The Tigers now 26-11 and 12-3 in conference play complete the home series sweep of the Delta Devil’s in the Sunday afternoon victory.
Copeland, senior infielder, was perfect at the plate to collect two runs and four runners batted in. Stephan Vidal, junior catcher, recorded his first home run of the season for a grand slam. Vidal was credited with four RBIs on one hit.
Miguel Yrigoyen, senior right hand pitcher, recorded his fifth win of the season on the mound. Yrigoyen, now 5-2, pitched 7.2 innings for three earned runs (one unearned) and six strikeouts. Junior pitcher Mark Watson entered the game in relieve to pitch 1.1 innings for one hit allowed, two unearned runs, and one strikeout.
Jackson State ended the game with 13 runs, 14 hits, and two errors while Mississippi Valley recorded six runs, 13 hits, and one errors.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 14 when they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to face Alabama State in a three-game series. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
