MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jackson State baseball team takes the Alabama State road series with its 16-1 victory in Saturday’s competition. The Tigers, 28-11 overall and 14-3 in conference play, break the tie with the Hornets to claim the number one spot in the East Division.
Jesus Santana, junior infielder, led the Tigers at the plate with two home runs to go 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs and six runners batted in. Cornelius Copeland also contributed two runs and three RBIs going 4-for-6 at the plate. Other standout Tigers were Sam Campbell and Jarvis Warner. Campbell was perfect at the plate for three runs and one RBI and Warner collected three runs with four hits on five at-bats.
Jonathan Aponte pitched a complete seven-inning game to improve his record to 6-1. Aponte, senior right-hander, recorded three hits against, one earned run, and five strikeouts.
The Tigers will look to complete the sweep against the Hornets on Sunday, April 16. The game will be broadcast on the SWAC Digital network live with a start time of 1 p.m.
