JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State Lady Tigers softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with conference rival Mississippi Valley State.
In game one the Lady Tigers got an early lead on the Devilettes, 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning. The Devilettes responded in the top of the third scoring two runs off two hits to lock the game up at two. Mississippi Valley would take a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth pushing in three runs off two hits. The Lady Tigers offense rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring four runs off five hits knotting the game up again at six. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Lady Tigers dropped game one of the doubleheader 10-6 in nine innings.
In the second game, the Devilettes got on the scoreboard first, scoring one run off two hits. But the Lady Tigers responded in Tiger fashion scoring five runs off seven hits in the bottom of the first inning. The Devilettes would go on to score three additional runs in the top of the second to come with one. The Lady Tigers offense proved tough and would score two additional runs to win game two 7-5 and take the series 2-1 over the Devilettes.
NEXT UP – The Lady Tigers will travel to Hammond, Louisiana on Tuesday, April 18 to play SE Louisiana in a single non-conference contest scheduled for 5 pm.
