MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Stephan Vidal, junior catcher, led the Tigers in their 8-3 victory over Alabama State to complete the three-game series sweep. The Jackson State baseball team (29-11, 15-3) pull ahead of the Hornets in the race for the number one spot to be the highest ranked team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division.
Vidal, a Willemstad, Curacao native, went 2-for-3 at the plate for two runners batted in and two scored runs. Sam Campbell, senior infielder, also had a great game, contributing one RBI and one run scored with two hits and three plate appearances.
Miguel Yrigoyen, senior right-hander, collected his six win on the mound to improve his record to 6-2. The Valencia, Venezuela native pitched 8.0 innings for six hits against, three earned runs, and one strike out. Joshua Santiago entered the game in the ninth inning to close for the Tigers. He allowed no hits, no runs, and recorded one strikeout.
The Tigers will get a four-day rest before traveling to Lorman, Miss. to face in-state rival Alcorn State University. The two teams will face off in a three-game series beginning Friday, April 21. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
