ALEXANDRIA, La. – The four-time defending SWAC champions Alabama State Lady Hornets got off to another promising start on day one of the 2017 SWAC Women’s Golf Championship at the Links on the Bayou.
Reigning Most Valuable Player of the Year Chanelle Avaricio fired a school-record for a best round with a 6-under-par 66 to take a five-stroke lead over the remainder of the field for low medalist honors.
As a team, Alabama State shot a 12-over-par 300 to hold a seven-stroke advantage over Texas Southern (307). Jackson State sits in third place with a 349 followed by Prairie View A&M (369) and Alcorn State (378).
ALEXANDRIA, La. – Alabama State took control in the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference men’s golf championship on Monday.
The Hornets would fire a team score of three-under-par (285), to finish the day atop the leaderboard. Texas Southern would end the day in second after shooting a team score of 15-over-par (303).
Alcorn State would round out the top three, shooting a team score of 306 in the opening round.
Prairie View A&M would finish round one in fourth place at 312, while Jackson State would finish in fifth at 324. A
Day two of the championship will continue tomorrow, as players will tee off beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
