ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Jackson State women’s golf team finished in second place, behind Texas Southern, Tuesday to wrap up the 2017 SWAC Women’s Golf Championship which was played at the Links on the Bayou in Alexandria.
The Lady Tigers shot a 687 (349, 338) to finish in second place. Alabama State led the tournament by seven strokes after the first day of competition, but was disqualified due to a provisional ball strike by a player, which caused the to drop down to just three eligible players for the final round. Four players are needed to qualify for team championships.
JSU had three players to receive All-Conference honors. Makalia Brown was named an All-SWAC first team member and Tasita Garcia and Keelin Floyd each received All-SWAC second team recognition.
In men’s action, the Tigers remain in fifth place following the second day of action. Alabama State maintained its lead heading into the final round of action on Wednesday. The Hornets hold a 13 shot advantage over their nearest competitor (Texas Southern).
JSU’s Arriek Douglas shot the low round of the day with a 70, to move up the individual leaderboard into a tie for ninth place. The final round of action in the 2017 SWAC Men’s Golf Championship starts at 8:40 a.m.
