JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State softball team dropped the first game of a three-game home series against the Alabama State Hornets Friday evening at the JSU Softball Complex. The Hornets beat JSU 11-2.
Trailing by six runs in the second inning, the Lady Tigers got on the scoreboard at the bottom of the inning when Cheyenne Aplon tripled to get on base and was sent home on an Alexis Hansard single. After ASU added another run in the third inning, JSU scored its final run of the game when Denisha Knight scored on a Queen Briggs single to left field.
ASU put the game out of reach with a four run fourth inning. Vanessa Bradford pitched five innings to pick up the win for ASU. Miranda Jones, who pitched 3.2 innings, suffered the loss for JSU. Jones allowed 10 runs on nine hits.
Knight and Aplon each recorded two hits for the Lady Tigers. The two teams return to action Saturday at 10 am to play the final two games of the weekend series. The double header was originally scheduled for a 12 p.m. start time, but expected rain forced the two teams to agree to play at an earlier time.
