JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team outlasted the Alabama A&M Bulldogs by the score of 7-5 at Braddy Field. The Bulldogs chipped away at a 7-2 Tigers lead going into the sixth inning. Alabama A&M scored two in the sixth but only managed one run in the seventh inning.
Jonathan Aponte pitched 5.2 inning to pick up the win. JSU mustered enough offense to get past the Bulldogs, as the Tigers scored their seven runs on 12 hits. Five Tigers finished the game with two hits. Calvin Newsome, Jesus Santana, Jarvis Warner, Lakon Wilson and Wesley Reyes each had two hits. Newsome scored two runs for JSU.
After the AAMU Bulldogs put the first run on the scoreboard, the Tigers scored six straight in the second and third innings. JSU scored its final run of the game in the seventh.
JSU and AAMU will square off for the final game of the series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
