HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On day one of the 2017 SWAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Ky’Bria Spell (52.67m) took the top spot for the Lady Tigers in the hammer throw breaking the SWAC record. Earlier in the season Spell also broke the JSU record in hammer throw. Jamal Phillips (39.78m) placed seventh in hammer throw for the Tigers to wrap up day one.
Latoyia Gilding threw an impressive 14.96m to take gold for the Lady Tigers in the shot put. Ky’Bria Spell took fifth in the shot put with a 13.23m. The Lady Tigers end day two in a three-way tie for fourth with Mississippi Valley and Alabama A&M.
Javauny Hyde took the top spot in the long jump with a distance of 7.22m for the Tigers. Jason Hursey (6.98m), Eddie Parish (6.94m) and Ryan Theyard (6.83m) placed sixth, eighth and ninth respectively in the long jump. Aaron Ross Jr. (34.29) and Markquez Jackson (33.55m) placed seventh and eighth in the javelin throw. Vincent Langat (33:20.13) placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run. Eclecius Franklin (10:09.36) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The Tigers wrap-up day two in sixth place trailing UAPB by only one point.
