JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State relief pitcher Jose Tirado was named to the NCAA Division I South Central All-Region Second Team.
The San Juan, Puerto Rico native maintained a 1.23 earned run average in 24 appearances with 10 saves in his first year as a member of the Tiger baseball team. The junior right-hander pitched 44.0 innings with 31.0 hits against, six earned runs, 15 walks, and 49 strikeouts. Batters saw a .201 batting average against him.
With his help as the JSU closer, Tirado played an integral part in his team winning the sixth Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division title under the direction of head coach Omar Johnson with a 38-17-1 overall record.
Tirado led the SWAC in earned run average and saves. He ranked second in opposing batting average, eighth in appearances and fourth in games in relief.
