Jackson State University head men’s basketball coach Wayne Brent participated in the “Coaching With A Purpose” clinic Wednesday morning, which was hosted by Ingrid Cloy of the Mississippi Center for Excellence. The event, which was held at JSU’s Mississippi E-Center, was the first session of a four part leadership series for middle and high school coaches.
Brent concluded the opening session with straight talk about the coaching profession. “I’m busy from the time that I get up,” he said. “From the time that alarm goes off, I don’t spend my time hitting that button. I get up and I get stuff done.”
The purpose of the series is to provide middle school and high school coaches with professional training and enhanced personal development. The topics of the series includes adaptive leadership principles, emotional intelligence, ethics and professionalism in coaching and developing a team dynamic.
The remaining dates are July 5, July 12 and July 19. For more information contact Ingrid Cloy at 601-720-3693.
