BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its 2017 SWAC Preseason All-Conference Teams on Friday and Jackson State’s Keontre Anderson was selected as the SWAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Anderson was also named to the All-SWAC Preseason first team. He was joined by teammates Vincent Hunter and Shawn Bishop.
Anderson, a senior defensive end, led the FCS with 25.5 tackles for loss to go along with nine sacks and six quarterback hurries. The Canton, Mississippi native also finished second on the team in tackles with 55.
Hunter was named to the second team as an offensive lineman. The Memphis, Tennessee native played in all 11 games for the JSU and helped the Tigers compile 3,394 total offensive yards (1,139 rushing and 2,255 passing yards) and 20 touchdowns.
Bishop, played in all 11 games for the Tigers and finished the 2016 season as the third leading tackler on the team with 51. The Jackson, Mississippi native also had eight tackles for loss for 22 yards and blocked a kick.
Jackson State opens the 2017 season on September 2 when the Tigers travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs. For ticket information visit gofrogs.com.
