BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its preseason predictions during its annual football media day and the Jackson State Tigers were predicted to finish as the third best team in the SWAC East Division, behind defending Eastern Division Champion Alcorn State and Alabama State.
The Tigers totaled 59 points, as decided by conference head coaches and sports information directors. Alcorn State posted 80 points and Alabama State had 66. Alabama A&M (45 points) is predicted to finish fourth and Mississippi Valley State (20) is selected to finish fifth.
Defending SWAC and HBCU National Champion (Air Force Celebration Bowl) Grambling state tallied 85 points and was predicted to win the West Division and was selected as the conference overall favorite. Southern was selected second (68 points) while Prairie View A&M came in third (59). Texas Southern (37 points) and Arkansas Pine Bluff (21 points) rounded out the order of predicted finish.
Jackson State opens the 2017 season on September 2 when the Tigers travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs. For ticket information visit gofrogs.com.
