The Jackson State football team continues to make the most out of fall camp despite recent rainy conditions. The Tigers took to the practice field Tuesday morning, after missing a session on Monday because of the rain. Thunderstorms are projected for the rest of the week.
Despite the weather the team was in good spirits and had one of its better practices. Check the video below.
Because of the sloppy weather conditions there were miscues on both sides of the ball. Despite the mistakes, head coach Tony Hughes was happy with the excitement and intensity by the players. “We got after it today. We had fun and we played fast,” he said. “We are a better football team today. I liked your spirit. I liked your fight.”
The defense controlled the mini-scrimmage, forcing turnovers and other offensive miscues. The weather played a part, but the Dark Side Defense bounced back nicely after the offense had a good day in the previous practice. The front seven for the Tigers looks impressive. Deion Pope is really big man, but is very athletic. Keontre Anderson, Andre Lloyd and Shawn Bishop the projected team leaders were all disruptive during the session. Malik Hamner and Khalil Johnson both continue to standout as well.
Offensively, there wasn’t much to see. Again it was in large part due to the weather. However, the JSU running backs do seem to be a unit that will be a strength. Each back has shown toughness in running between the tackles as well as the ability to shake a defender and take it the distance.
