Tigers Suffer First Conference Loss

JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team suffered its first conference loss against defending SWAC champions Alabama State Friday night. The Tigers (9-5, 3-1) struggled to get hits at the plate for the 5-0 loss.
Cornelius Copeland and Wesley Reyes had the best luck at the plate to record three at-bats for one hit each.
Senior right-handed pitcher Jonathan Aponte received his first loss on the mound for a 3-1 record. During Friday’s competition, Aponte tallied 6.1 innings pitched eight hits, four runs (one earned), one walk, and one strikeout. Kevin Perez and Joshua Santiago entered the game in relief to close out the game for the Tigers.
Jackson State will be back in action on Saturday, March 10 when they take on Alabama in the second game of the series. The games start time has been changed from 3 p.m. to 12 p.m. due to inclement weather. Come out and support Tiger baseball.
