Lady Tigers Put Up Fight, But Fall 4-3 to Southeastern Louisiana

HAMMOND, La.  –  The Jackson State women’s tennis team had a very good performance but fell 4-3 to the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions in non-conference action Saturday evening at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. 

“We had a great performance today,” said head coach Lois Alexis. “We played one of the best teams we have played all season and we had the opportunity to win.”

The Lady Tigers had key performances from Lucia Solis, Tyler Smith and Dasha Burbina, with each recording a win. Solis and Smith picked up a doubles win at the No. 2 position, beating Lucia Bustamante an Natalie Duran 6-3. Solis and Smith also picked up singles victories. Solis rolled through the match at the No. 2 position, beating Lucia Bustamante. Smith dropped the first set, but bounced back to take the last two as she beat Dany Raygadas 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Burbina claimed the final win of the match for JSU as she knocked off  Natalie Duran 7-6, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. 

“We had an overall good performance as we head into SWAC play,” said Alexis.

NEXT UP FOR JSU: The Lady Tigers return to action Monday, Feb. 13 as part of a non-conference men’s and women’s twinbill against Mississippi College. Match play is set for 2 pm.
