Cornelius Copeland enters his second season as a member of the Jackson State baseball team.
Cornelius Copeland played and started in 54 games for the Tigers during the 2016 season. He maintained a.422 batting average with 187 at-bats, 62 runs, 79 hits (18 doubles, three triples, and five home runs) for 118 total bases and a .631 slugging percentage. At the plate, he was issued 26 walks and 26 hit-by-pitches to record a .537 on-base percentage. On the field, he recorded 58 putouts and 139 assists for a .895 fielding percentage.

In the nation, he ranked third in batting average, 42nd in slugging percentage, ninth in runs-per-game, 21st in runs, third in on-base percentage, and 56th in hits-per-game.
For his effort during the 2016 season, Copeland was named to the All-SWAC First Team and the SWAC Baseball Championship All-Tournament team.
Copeland attended St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, FL. He was a member of the Titan baseball team for 2 years. He was named Defensive Player of the Year his freshman year.
Copeland attended Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, FL. He was a member of the Spartan baseball team where he was a 4-year varsity starter. He was named to the All-County first team his junior and senior year and he was a member of the National Honor Society.
Copeland is the youngest child of Rickey and Melinda Copeland. He has one older brother Richard.
