Jesus Santana enters his third season as a member of the Jackson State baseball team.
Jesus Santana was the only Tiger to play and start in all 60 games during the 2016 season. He saw 212 at-bats, 61 runs, 59 hits (16 doubles and 17 home runs) for a .278 batting average. He also recorded 67 RBIs, 129 total bases, and a .594 on-base percentage. At the plate, he was issued 40 walks and 11 hit-by-pitches for a .410 on-base percentage. He went 5-for-7 in stolen bases and collected 122 putouts and 84 assists for a .888 fielding percentage.
On the team, Santana ranked sixth in batting average, third in slugging percentage, fifth in on-base percentage, second in runs scored, sixth in hits, first in RBIs, second in doubles, first in home runs, first in total bases, seventh in steal attempts, first in total plate appearances, first in at-bats, first in games played, first in games started, sixth in fielding percentage, third in putouts, second in assists, and third in fielding double plays.
In the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Jesus Santana ranked eighth in slugging percentage, third in runs scored, first in RBIs, fourth in doubles, first in home runs, first in total bases, first in total appearances, and first in at-bats.
Nationally, he ranks 28th in home runs per game, 24th in RBIs per game, 18th in home runs, 30th in runs, and 13th in RBIs.
Santana played in 52 games with 49 starts. He had 180 at-bats with 37 runs, 51 hits (12 doubles, 2 triples, and 12 homeruns), 48 RBIs, and 103 total bases for a batting avg. of .283 and a slugging pct. of .572. Santanna also recorded 106 putouts and 47 assist for .922 fielding pct. He ranked ninth in the conference in slugging percentage, sixth in RBIs, first in home runs, and seventh in total bases. On the team, he ranked fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in hits, third in RBIs, third in doubles, first in homeruns, and second in total bases. For his effort, he was named SWAC Freshman of the Year, Louisville Slugger All-American, and SWAC All Conference Second Team.
He joined the Jackson State baseball team after graduating from Caguas Military Academy in Caguas, Puerto Rico.
Jesus is the son of Luis Santana and Wilmarie Lebron. He has two brothers, Jose and Johann, and two sisters, Emily and Melanie.
