(This is a look back at one of the best performances of the 2022-23 season.)

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas| The Jackson State University soccer team capped its run at the tournament claiming the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Soccer Championship Title after defeating Grambling State 4-2 in overtime at the PVAMU Soccer Complex. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Jackson State got on the board at the 25:59 mark as Kendyl Terrell scored the Tigers' first goal with the assist from Annalise Brunson 

-Grambling State closed out the first half with a corner kick as JSU held onto a 1-0 lead

-JSU scored again at the opening of the second half as Alexes Sanchez scored a goal after an assist from Olivia Cobb to extend JSU's lead 2-0 at 46:54

-Grambling State's Lizabeth Aguero scored at the 85:40 mark to put the Tigers on the board for the first time while JSU held on to its 2-1 lead

-GSU came back to tie the score at two with seconds left in regulation as Aria Whitney scored the black and gold's second goal to send the match into overtime

-Kendyl Terrell and Annalise Brunson ran it back as Terrell punched in another goal with the assist from Brunson to take a 3-2 lead for JSU as time expired in the first overtime

 -With a little under two minutes left in the second overtime, Maya-Joy Thompson scored JSU's fourth goal to officially seal the match as the Tigers walked away with the 4-2 victory reigning as the 2022 SWAC Champions 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

-Jackson State recorded 12 shots and eight shots on goal

-Kendyl Terrell, Alexes Sanchez and Maya-Joy Thompson scored the Tigers' goals 

-Five Tigers were named to the All-Tournament Team: Tionna Taylor, Kendly Terrell, Sydni Wilson, Olivia Cobb and Jordan Smith was tabbed MVP.
