JSU Closes Season at Soul Bowl

LORMAN, Miss. – That School in Lorman defeated Jackson State 24-3 Saturday afternoon at Spinks-Casem Stadium. The setback officially eliminated the Tigers from contention for a berth in the SWAC championship game.

Despite the defeat, Jackson State finished with a 5-5 and 4-3 record in the SWAC. The Tigers completed their first non-losing season since 2013.

"I'm really proud of this team," JSU interim head coach John Hendrick said following the game. "It's been a privilege to lead them the last couple weeks. This group does not quit, and they fight until the final whistle. We have such a young team and kids who are only going to get better and build the foundation of this program."

The first half was a virtual stalemate. After a scoreless first quarter, Christian Jacquemin connected on a 44-yard field goal to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The Braves added a field goal their own in the waning moments of the second quarter and the game entered halftime knotted at 3-3.

TSIL (8-3, 6-1 SWAC) scored 21-unanswered points in the second half.

Keshawn Harper led the Tigers in rushing with 54 yards and Quitten Brown totaled 37 yards on seven carries.

Jarrad Hayes went 9-for-17 for 103 yards.
