JACKSON – Freshman linebacker Keonte Hampton has been named 2018 Hero Sports FCS Freshman of the Year. Hampton garnered 40.58 percent of the fan vote to earn the honor.
 
The West Point, Mississippi native totaled 40 solo tackles and assisted on 43 stops for a total of 83 tackles on the season. He made 10.5 tackles for loss that accounted for 29 yards and produced 1.5 sacks.
 
Hampton also averaged 8.3 tackles per game, which ranked fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
