UL-Monroe Defeats Jackson State in Close Contest

MONROE, La. – Louisiana-Monroe defeated Jackson State 12-7 in non-conference action Saturday evening.
 
Freshman Shedeur Sanders connected with Josh Lanier for a 24-yard touchdown pass at 6:03 in the second quarter which proved to be the only touchdown of the game.
 
Sanders finished 28-for-41 for 259 yards and one touchdown and distributed the ball to eight different receivers.
 
Senior Warren Newman added a career-high 10 receptions to go with a long of 21 yards. Lanier added seven receptions for 72 yards, while Keith Corbin III caught four passes for 66 yards.
 
Peytton Pickett, Kyland Richey, Trevonte Rucker, Santee Marshall, and Shane Hooks also recorded receptions.
 
Senior Aubrey Miller, Jr. totaled a game-high 19 tackles, including seven solo and two tackles for loss.
 
Keonte Hampton added seven tackles and Nyles Gaddy came through with six stops.
 
The Tigers return to action next Saturday and host Delta State at 2 p.m. in the annual W.C. Gorden Classic.
