MOBILE, Ala. – The Jackson State Tigers defeated Alabama A&M 27-13 Saturday in the Gulf Coast Challenge to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division crown for the second straight year.
Jackson State (10-0 overall, 7-0 SWAC) will host the Cricket SWAC Championship Game for the second straight year on December 3 at The Vet, the opponent to be determined. Ticket information will be announced later.
QB Shedeur Sanders completed 14 of 245 passes for 185 yards with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. WR/CB Travis Hunter had his first career touchdown reception (first quarter) and first career interception (second quarter) in the game. Hunter (20 yards), D.J. Stevens (19 yards), Shane Hooks (35 yards), and Willie Gaines (21 yards) each had touchdown catches in the victory. RB Sy'veon Wilkerson has 21 carries for 89 yards as the Tigers rushed for 153 yards in the game.
LB Aubrey Miller had a game-high 17 tackles along with a pass breakup and fumble recovery. LB Jurriente Davis had 12 tackles, including two for loss, LB Baron Hopson had 10 and had 1/2 sack with DL Josh Griffis.
Jackson State will look to complete an undefeated regular season next Saturday at Alcorn.
