Biggs, Dent Finalists For 2023 Black College Football Hall Of Fame

Jackson State University football legends Verlon Biggs and Kevin Dent are among 25 finalists for the 2023 Black College Football Hall of Fame.
 
The Finalists were selected from a field of over 200 nominees by an 11-member Selection Committee composed of prominent journalists, commentators, historians, former NFL General Managers and football executives.  
 
"We are excited that these Jackson State football greats are again finalists for this prestigious honor," said JSU Vice President / Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson. "They helped build the tradition that we stand on today as JSU Football and JSU Athletics. They are more than deserving of this recognition and are excited about their opportunity to be named Black College Football Hall Of Famers next month."

Verlon Biggs – Defensive End
Verlon Biggs played for Jackson State from 1961-64 and left his mark. Biggs was a two-time consensus All-American and All-SWAC performer (1963, 1964). He was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft in by the Green Bay Packers and was drafted in the third round of the AFL Draft by the New York Jets. He was a five-time All AFL selection, named to the All-NFL team in 1972 and won two Super Bowls (New York Jets, Washington Redskins).
 
Kevin Dent – Safety
Kevin Dent played for Jackson State from 1985 to 1988. During his four years at the school, Jackson State won 27 of 28 conference games and Dent became the only Jackson State player to be named an All-American three times. In his sophomore season, he tied for the nation's leader in interceptions with 10, taking two back for touchdowns. From that point on, offenses across the SWAC avoided his side of the field. After his college career, the Arizona Cardinals signed Dent as a free agent. He played for the Birmingham Fire of the World Football League and the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League.

This year's inductees will be announced on December 8, 2022. They will be recognized for the first time at the Second Annual HBCU Legacy Bowl in New Orleans on February 25, 2023, and honored during the 14th Annual Black College Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, June 10, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia.
