The Jackson State Tigers opened the home portion of the 2022 schedule with a 66-24 win over Grambling in the W.C. Gorden Classic.
JSU rolled up 608 yards total offense in the non-conference win, pulling away from a 21-17 halftime lead to outscore the G-Men 45-7 in the second half.
Offensive Most Valuable Player
Shedeur Sanders accounted for a career-high six touchdowns (four passing / career-high two rushing). He completed 22 of 34 passes for 357 yards, five yards shy of his career high.
Defensive MVP LB Aubrey Miller had eight tackles, including one for loss, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup, as the Tigers limited GSU to 10 first downs and 239 total yards.
RB Sy'Veon Wilkerson rushed 23 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns in his first start for Jackson State, which rushed for 216 yards in the game.
Leading by four, Jackson State scored on six consecutive possessions to open the second half. Sanders passed for three touchdowns over the final two quarters, including a career-long 86-yard scoring strike to
Willie Gaines.
The JSU defense limited Grambling to two first downs in the second half, including 0-7 on third-down conversions.
Jackson State will return to SWAC play next Saturday in a 1 p.m. game hosting Mississippi Valley State.
