Having won their last two games, the Tigers are coming off a 45-30 victory over Alabama A&M in the Gulf Coast Challenge. Jackson State looks to continue its winning ways as the Tigers welcome alumni, fans, and friends back to Jackson for Homecoming.

Against Alabama A&M, the Tigers' defense forced four turnovers that aided the offense in scoring five touchdowns in the first half. Two-time SWAC Newcomer of the Week Irv Mulligan led the way on offense with 23 carries for 115 yards. Mulligan has now rushed for over 100 yards in three games this season and looks to make it three consecutive games reaching that milestone. He also rushed for 174 yards earlier this season against Bethune-Cookman.

Jackson State recorded its fourth game with 400 yards or more of total offense this season against the Bulldogs, as Jason Brown continued to be a steady signal caller for the Tigers – throwing for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Brown connected with six different receivers for his second multi-touchdown game of the season. One of those touchdown passes was a 47-yarder to Fabian McCray, and the other two touchdowns went to Seven McGee, who recorded his first multi-touchdown game of the season.

The offense also got on the board behind the leg of Dylan Wasson, who kicked a 40-yard field goal into the wind in his first game with the Tigers in 2023.

Defensively, Khalil Arrington led the way with seven tackles. B.J. Washington, Keydrain Calligan, and Jaheem Hazel all had an interception in the game to help seal the victory for the Tigers.

Alabama State (2-3, 1-2 SWAC) is coming off a tough 19-14 Homecoming win over Bethune-Cookman after an overtime loss at home to Alcorn State. Saturday's game will be only the second road game of the season for the Hornets. The quarterbacks Damon Stewart and Dematrius Davis, who have played in most of the games and have over 400 passing yards between them, are charged with leading the offense for Alabama State.

The Hornets defense only allows 18.2 points per game and holds opponents to 304 yards of total offense, and opponents are converting just 36 percent on third downs. One of five coaches in the SWAC to lead their alma mater, head coach Eddie Robinson, Jr., is in his second season leading the Hornets.
