Tigers fall to Alabama State, 24-19

Jackson, Miss. - The Jackson State football team fell to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, while the Hornets improved to 3-3 and 2-2 in SWAC play following a 24-19 loss at home on Saturday night at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The defense shined as they held Alabama State to just 241 yards of total offense, which includes just 91 yards passing. For the fifth consecutive game, the defense has forced a turnover, which included two interceptions tonight. Ke'Vroc Wiggins Jr. and Anthony Petty accounted for the two interceptions for the Tigers. Jackson State only allowed the Hornets to complete seven passes while holding Alabama State to just ten first downs and three-of-12 on third-down conversions. 

Dylan Wasson led the way for the Tigers from an offensive standpoint, as he connected on a career-long 46-yard field goal and followed that up with a field goal of 45 yards to put Jackson State ahead 13-10 in the third quarter.

Jason Brown led the offense for Jackson State with 234 yards passing while connecting on 30-of-44 passes to ten different receivers. Fabian McCray was targeted 12 times, catching eight passes for 79 yards.

Jackson State will return on the road as they travel to the Delta to face the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Itta Bena, Mississippi, for a game broadcast live on ESPN+ and scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
