FUQUAY VARINA, N.C. | Four players were named BOXTOROW All-American for their performances during the 2024 season with one other earning honorable mention honors and Travis Terrell Jr. earning Rookie of the Year honors.
BOXTOROW has named the All-America team since 2007, based on voting by media who cover HBCU football.
Irv Mulligan earned the nod at running back after missing the first two games of the season, Mulligan was inserted into the starting lineup with the Tigers dropping just one game in the stretch. He finished the season with 1,265 yards rushing on 205 carries and 13 touchdowns, recording the sixth-best single-season total in school history and the best since 1999. His 13 rushing touchdowns led the conference and he also led the conference with six 100-yard rushing games including four consecutive that featured a 187-yard performance against Mississippi Valley State. Mulligan finished the season 11th in the nation in rushing yards, 11th in rushing yards per game (103.8), 20th in rush yards per carry (6.07), 21st in rushing touchdowns, 29th in total touchdowns (13), 40th in all-purpose yards (107.00), and 64th in scoring (6.5). He was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award (National Player of the Year) and the HBCU+ National Player of the Year Award and was also named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year.
He was joined on the first team offense by D'Andre Townes-Blue was named to the offensive line after blocking for one of the most explosive offenses in FCS football, rotating between guard and center. The Tigers ranked second in red zone offense (0.963), sixth in scoring offense (36.4), eighth in rushing offense (211.9), 31st in sacks allowed (1.50), 34th in total offense (401.2), 59th in time of possession (30:09), and 81st in passing offense (189.3).
Ke'Vric Wiggins Jr. was the lone selection to the defense after he finished the regular season with three interceptions, ranking 62nd in the country. He finished the year with 29 tackles with 24 of those being solo stops. He also recorded a tackle for loss, and nine pass breakups. Wiggins recorded six tackles and three pass breakups against Alabama A&M, and five against Grambling State.
Terrell finished the season ranked among the best in the nation in returns. He leads the nation in kick returns for touchdowns with two (one each against Texas Southern and Alabama A&M) and is ranked in the top five nationally in three other categories. He is third in punt returns (16.7), fourth in combined kick returns (851), fourth in kickoff returns (30.6), and 36th in all-purpose yards (108.08). He also had an 80-yard punt return called back against South Carolina State in the Celebration Bowl.
Meanwhile, Joshua Nobles received honorable mention honors after he ranked 23rd in the nation in sacks at 0.71 per game and is fourth in the conference. He finished the regular season with 10 total sacks for a loss of 89 yards, including a streak of four games with a sack. He recorded a season-high 2.5 sacks against Southern, and has recorded 12 tackles for loss for a total of 92 yards. He also finished third on the team in tackles with 57, recorded nine quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. He recorded five or more tackles seven times, including recording six three different times.
