D'IBERVILLE, Miss. | Jackson State finished the opened weekend of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action fourth in the standings just two matches back at the SWAC West Roundup hosted at Cypress Lanes this weekend.

Jackson State (30-35, 9-5 SWAC) started the weekend with four wins in its first five matches beginning with a 30-pin victory over Prairie View A&M (981-951) on Friday. They followed that up with a 999-741 win over Grambling State before dropping a one-pin match to Alabama A&M 889-888. The Tigers closed out the first day of competition with wins over defending champion Alabama State (1,000-972) and Southern (1,021-953).

The Tigers finished with a 3-2 record on day two of the Roundup beginning with a 901-900 victory over Texas Southern, giving them five wins in their first six matches. They extended their streak with a 960-750 victory over Florida A&M before falling to Prairie View A&M 999-920. They split the final two matches of the day, defeating Grambling State (910-699) and losing to Alabama A&M (1.036-1,017).

On the final day, Jackson State split their four matches with wins over Southern (1,021-958) and Florida A&M (965-723), while suffering losses to Alabama State (958-853) and Texas Southern (971-960).

Alabama A&M leads through the first weekend of conference play at 11-3 with 13,022 pins (186.03) average, followed by Southern at 10-4 with 13,637 pins (194.81). They are followed by a trio of teams at 9-5 including Alabama State (13,446 pins), Jackson State (13,396 pins), and Prairie View A&M (13,322 pins).

Individually, Catalina Tovar finished fourth on the opening weekend of conference play with an average of 202.64 (2,837 total pins) in 14 matches. She is joined in the top 15 by a pair of teammates including Juliana Rincon in 11th with an average of 190.57 (2,668 total pins) and MacKenzie Conway in 15th with an average of 188.79 (2,643 total pins).
