Carpenter leads Jackson State at La Tour Intercollegiate

MATHEWS, La. |  Trace Carpenter led Jackson State at the La Tour Intercollegiate finishing at 9-over (225) with a pair of rounds hovering around even par at the LaTour Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, in a tournament hosted by Nicholls.

Carpenter shot an even-par (72) through the first 18 holes and followed that up with a 1-over (73) in the second round on Monday. However, he slipped into a tie for 51st after a final round 8-over (80). He finished seven spots higher than his teammate Ekam Singh who finished at 12-over (228) including a round-best 3-over (75) in the second round. Kaden Tibbetts finished 64th, one shot better than his teammate JD Berndt with 3-over (75) second round.

Jackson State finished 13th overall in the tournament with 50-over par (914) that included an 11-over (299) in the second round on Monday.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • Carpenter finished with 10 birdies and 27 pars in three rounds, including four birdies in each of the first two rounds.
  • Carpenter only birdied the same hole twice in three rounds, at the par-4 10th hole in both the second and third rounds.
  • Singh birdied eight holes in the three rounds including three in the first round and three in the final round. He birded par-5 third in the first and second rounds, and followed that up with a birdie on par-5 13th in the first and final rounds.
  • After not making a birdie in the first round, Tibbets birdied three holes in the second round and another two in the final. He birded the par-4 15th in the second and third rounds.
  • Berndt birdied four holes on the day for the Tigers.
