OPENING KICK

  • Jackson State controls its own destiny in the SWAC East Division with two games remaining. The Tigers are currently tied with Alabama State but hold the tiebreaker and are one game up on Bethune-Cookman. They have home games remaining against Bethune-Cookman and Alcorn State to close out the season.
  • Nate Rembert returned to Florida A&M after leading MVSU to a road victory snapping the Rattlers home winning streak, finshing with a pair of touchdowns for Jackson State - one receiving and one rushing. He answered that with six receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns in his return to Valley last weekend [first time returning since transfer].
  • In two of its last three games, Jackson State has opened their scoring with almost identical results. The Tigers scored against Grambling State on their opening drive using 10 plays to go 86 yards in 3:43 to go up 7-0, while they went 86 yards in eight plays using 3:43 to go up 7-0.
  • Jackson State had its streak of 13 consecutive wins against SWAC opponents and 14 consecutive games against FCS competition snapped in the loss to Grambling State, the only FCS team to have beat Jackson State in the last two years.
  • Since the fall of 2021, Jackson State has won 58 of 69 games overall and are 34-4 in regular season games against conference competition. The Tigers have won three Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] championships, played in three Celebrration Bowls, and won the 2024 HBCU national championship.
  • The Tigers have had three different players rush for over 100 yards this season [Miller, Morgan, Donerio Davenport and Travis Terrell Jr.]. The Tigers have rushed for over 200 yards in five games this season, all wins, while in the three games they have failed to reach that mark they are 1-2 on the season.
  • Reid Pulliam had a career day against Grambling State, finshing with a career-high 10 tackles [seven solo], and ended up with a pair of tackles for loss and a sack. His fellow linebacker, Ashton Taylor, had a monster night against Florida A&M with five tackles including three tackles for loss.
  • Jared Lockhart completed 77.8 percent of his passes in his third career start on Saturday against Mississippi Valley State. He also passed for a career-high two touchdowns [both to Rembert] and was only sacked one time. He passed for 241 yards, his second-highest total in his career [four games].

CONTROLLING ITS OWN DESTINY
With two games remaining on the schedule, and both at home, Jackson State controls its own destiny for winning the SWAC East Division and the championship host beginning with Bethune-Cookman this weekend. Jackson State (7-2, 5-1 SWAC) can clinch with a win and an Alabama State loss this week or can clinch with wins in both of its next two games.

JACKSON STATE AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION RUNNING THE FOOTBALL
Jackson State is currently second in the nation in rushing at 267.4 yards per game, trailing only Delaware State this season. The Tigers have rushed for 200-plus yards in six of the nine games this season, including 392 against FAMU and 388 against Alabama A&M. The only three games the Tigers haven't reached that mark came against Southern, Grambling State and Southern Miss. Miller is among the nation's best through the first nine games of the season, ranking among the nation's best in several categories and needs to average 104.5 yards per game over the final two regular season games to hit 1,000 yards for the year. The redshirt sophomore is fifth in the nation in yards per carry [6.88], 22nd in rushing yards per game [87.9], and 26th in rushing yards [791].
