Tigers go 3-0 in match play, finish ninth at Bearcat Invitational

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. | After finishing 3-0 in match play, the Jackson State Tigers finished ninth at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by McKendree University over the weekend, defeating multiple opponents from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and No. 24 Oklahoma Christian.

After dropping the first match of Baker play against Wright State, the Tigers bounced back by besting SWAC foe Alabama A&M, 923-823. They split the final two matches of the day, beating the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds 1,046-718 and falling to the Maryville Saints in a close 989-915 finish.

In Traditional play, the Tigers defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater 898-864 and Southern 923-899. They faced three ranked teams: No. 11 Sacred Heart University, No. 7 Newman, and No. 24 Oklahoma Christian, to conclude the second day of competition.

Jackson State concluded the final day of competition by winning all three of its matches against Western Illinois, Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Oklahoma Christian, the latter of which it is 2-1 against in the last two weeks.

"Good weekend, and super work today, especially," head coach Michael Boykins said. "To go 3-0 in match play really says a lot about our character."
