BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced a revision to the 2025 SWAC Football Postseason Individual Awards, and Jackson State's Jared Lockhart has been named the 2025 SWAC Football co-Freshman of the Year.
Due to an administrative error in the final vetting of the nominations submitted the two recipients that received the highest number of total votes (Lockhart/Bingmon) will both be recognized for the 2025 Freshman of the Year award.
Lockhart appeared in six games, including starting five at quarterback for Jackson State, finishing the season 5-0 as a starter. He finished the season 70-of-104 passing for 1,031 yards, completing 67.3 percent of his passes. He also tossed seven touchdowns and just two interceptions. In his first collegiate start against Tuskegee [9.13], Lockhart finished 15-of-21 passing for 254 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for two more. He also went 21-of-27 passing for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Lockhart threw for at least one touchdown in all six appearances on the season.
He also ran for 196 yards on 55 carries with three touchdowns. Lockhart was named the SWAC Newcomer of the Week and the FCS HBCU National Player of the Week this season.
