JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State's second half comeback came up short, as the Tigers fell to Prairie View A&M 23-21 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in the 2025 Pepsi SWAC Football Championship Game presented by GM.
Jackson State (9-3) fought from behind the entire game despite tying the contest at 7-all with 11:20 remaining in the second quarter as Prairie View A&M (10-3) used three field goals from Diego Alfaro to extend the lead to 16-7. The Tigers would not go away as they used a 22-yard touchdown by Ja'Naylon Dupree with 5:09 to play in the third to trim the deficit to 16-14, and a two-yard run from Ahmad Miller that trimmed the lead to 23-21 with 1:37 remaining the quarter. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter and Prairie View A&M was able to run the clock out after picking up a first down at the two-minute timeout to earn the conference's berth into the Cricket Celebration Bowl.Â
Jared Lockhart finished 6-of-9 passing for 156 yards and a touchdown after coming on for an injured JaCobian Morgan, after his 29-yard touchdown run in the second quarter which proved to be his last play as a Tiger. Before his injury, Morgan ran two times for 28 yards; while Travis Terrell Jr. finished with 34 yards on nine carries to lead Jackson State. Nate Rembert finished with four receptions for 80 yards and Dupree two catches for 37 yards.
Defensively, Reid Pulliam finished with 14 tackles include seven solo and Kam Sallis 12 with eight solo stops. Shamar Hawkins added eight tackles, while Quincy Ivory added seven in the loss.
