NEW ORLEANS, La. | In the opening round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship, 3rd-seeded Jackson State men's tennis shut out 5th-seeded Prairie View 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
Maas Schotanus, Ching Chang Chiu, Alejandro Pinilla, and Federico Pickenstainer secured the doubles point for the Tigers. Schotanus and Chiu won the first match 6-3 on court one, while Pinilla and Pickenstainer finished the job on court two in a 6-4 decision.
Strong singles play from Jhoan Vaquero, Gokalp Ayar, and Schotanus propped the Tigers to the second round. Vaquero claimed the second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. Ayar won his match on court six 6-1, 6-0. Schotanus sealed the deal at number three after winning his match 6-4, 6-4.
