GREEN BAY, Wisc. | Former Jackson State University star Travis Hunter became the highest pick in the history of the Tigers' football program when he was picked second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars at the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Jacksonville moved up to the second pick in a trade with Cleveland just before the pick on Thursday night, selecting Hunter as the first defensive back/wide receiver announced.
Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy, played one season at Jackson State, playing on both sides of the football recording 18 receptions for 188 yards with four touchdowns. Hunter also recorded 20 total tackles with two interceptions for the Tigers and returned an interception for a touchdown and a touchdown reception against Alcorn State on November 19, 2022. He also finished with 10 pass breakups as a freshman. Hunter finished his career with 96 receptions for 1,258 yards combined with the Tigers and Colorado with 15 touchdowns, and he finished his career with 62 total tackles, nine interceptions, and 26 pass breakups.
Hunter became the highest pick in school history, eclipsing Walter Payton with the fourth pick 50 years ago today in the 1975 NFL Draft. He becomes the eighth all-time first-round selection in its history that includes Jerome Barkum (1975), Don Reese (1974), Payton (1975), Robert Brazile (1975), Lester Holmes (1993), Morris (2000), and Anderson (2000).
