BATON ROUGE, La. | Jackson State went over the 500-yard mark of total offense in its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opener,  a 38-13 victory over Southern at A.W. Mumford Stadium on Saturday night.

Jackson State (3-1, 1-0 SWAC), winners of its last 11 games against conference competition dating back to last season, piled up 538 total yards of offense with 197 yards rushing and 337 yards passing in the win. JaCobian Morgan led Jackson State offensively with 337 yards on 21-of-32 passing with two touchdowns, hitting three receivers for 90-plus yards including Nate Rembert for 102 yards on five receptions with one touchdown - an 82-yard fourth quarter touchdown. Jameel Gardner Jr. finished with 96 yards on seven receptions, and Ja'Naylon Dupree finished with 93 yards on five receptions for Jackson State.

Ahmad Miller led the rushing attack with 101 yards on 14 carries, his second game over 100 yards this season; while Travis Terrell Jr. finished 55 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Donerio Davenport scored a pair of touchdowns for the Tigers.

Jackson State fell behind early to Southern after a muffed punt in the first quarter before scoring the game's first touchdown late in the first to take the lead. After Southern took a 13-10 lead with five minutes to play, Jackson State used a 51-yard touchdown reception from Dupree to take the lead (17-13) with just five seconds remaining in the first half and never looked back.  

Ashton Taylor led the defense with seven tackles including six solo with a sack and tackle for loss, while Jeremiah Williams finished with five. Kam Sallis finished with five tackles and an interception, while Quincy Ivory recorded a sack.

4th Quarter (4:09) - Rembert 82-yard pass from Morgan (Baeza kick), Jackson State 38-13.
