Tigers fall short in season opener versus Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Jackson State fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the spring season opener on Friday afternoon.

In singles play, newcomer Mariia Iordanova pushed the Tide's Maria Andrienko to a tight 7-5 first set before falling 6-0 in the second. Polina Georgieva and Tiara Alvarez scored three points apiece in their respective sets as well.

Despite losing the doubles point, the team of Iordanova and Daniela Tovar scored two points for the Tigers in their match together.

The Tigers will regroup and travel to Natchitoches, La., to face the Lamar University Cardinals on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m.
