Game 5 Preview: Jackson State vs. Alabama A&M | Gulf Coast Challenge

MOBILE, Ala. | No. 23/25 Jackson State hits the road for the first time since the opening weekend, heading south to face Alabama A&M at Ladd-Pebbles Stadium for the annual Gulf Coast Challenge for the fifth consecutive season.

Both Jackson State (4-0, 1-0 SWAC) and Alabama A&M (4-1, 1-0 SWAC) enter the contest riding four-game winning streaks following wins in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play last, with the Tigers defeating Southern at home and Alabama A&M winning at Florida A&M. The Tigers have won the previous four meetings between the two schools in Mobile at the classic.

The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, which could affect the contest.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. on SWACTV.

  • Today's game marks the fourth Classic of the season for Jackson State, with the Tigers winning the first three, including the John Merritt Classic [Tennessee State], Hope Labor Day Classic [Edward Waters], and W.C. Gorden Classic [Tuskegee]. It will mark the final classic of the season for the Tigers.
  • Since the fall of 2021, Jackson State has won 64 of 76 games overall and is 37-4 in regular-season games against conference competition. The Tigers have won three Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] championships, played in three Celebration Bowls, and won the 2024 HBCU national championship.
  • Jackson State is 16-3 at home under head coach T.C. Taylor since taking the helm in 2023, including a 6-0 mark in 2024. The Tigers also went 5-1 at home last season, with its lone loss coming in the SWAC Championship game, ending an 11-game home winning streak. The Tigers have not lost a non-conference home game under Taylor.
  • Today's meeting between Alabama A&M and Jackson State will be the fifth at the Gulf Coast Challenge, with Jackson State winning the first four.
